SINCE 2024
How it started
In late 2024, after unfulfilling experiences in other creative workshops, we were inspired to develop a new type of supportive, critical, and creative community. We agreed the rigidity of traditional writers' groups and inflexibility of academic circles were stifling. We wanted a more malleable group in which creatives could present to peers across all disciplines. A group in which presenters developed reaction frameworks that benefitted them most.
Reactors Collective began as a monthly videoconference that included writers, musicians, academics, visual artists, and entrepreneurs. Our monthly criticisms remain the foundation of the group as we branch out to interdisciplinary collaborations, digital media, and events.
How It Works
A Typical Critique
Creator schedules 30 minutes with Reactors Collective to present and receive reactions.
Creator selects a desired style of response and articulates this in advance of the presentation:
-
Professional Criticism intended to help presenter level up work to professional and personal standards. All criticisms and editorial suggestions are on the table.
-
Motivational Words intended to push presenter to keep working and moving forward. Focus on what is working.
-
Open Discussion. Potentially a combination of professional and motivational.
-
Choose Your Own Adventure. Tell us what you need.
Creator develops 3 to 5 prompts regarding their work to guide reactions and distributes their work.
During the scheduled session, Reactors react based on creator's desired type of reaction.
Inspired by feedback, everyone's work gets better.
Reactors rejoice.
